The University of Georgia golf course placed No. 12 in the top 100 best courses in the country in 2017, according to ratings by Golf Advisor.
The rankings were based on 150,000 reviews from 92,000 members of Golf Advisor, a website which collects reviews of golf courses around the world, as reported in The Red & Black.
Courses which received 10 or more reviews were eligible for making the list. For these rankings, star ratings in categories such as conditions, layout, off-course amenities, value, pace of play and staff friendliness are all considered.
UGA’s course has an average overall star rating among Golf Advisor’s members of 4.6 out of 5 stars. It was also ranked 2017’s No. 1 top course in the state of Georgia.
“Its very long stretching out to almost 7,400 yards and is a par 71,” head coach of men's golf Chris Haack said. “A lot of slope in the greens and on all the fairways making players have to understand how the lie of the balls is affected coming off the club.”
Overall, the course has a rating of a 75.1 with 97.5 percent of reviewers on Golf Advisor recommending this course.
“Side hill, up hill, down hill lies are common place at UGA and if you can learn to navigate those shots, then you can take on anything,” Haack said.
UGA’s golf course, which was developed in 1968, is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public.
“If they can play this course, they can take their game anywhere to any course,” Haack said. “Every aspect of your golf game gets challenged at our course.”
